Welcome Message from the Chairperson

It is a great pleasure for me to welcome you to the National Council (NC) Website. The site provides useful information about the works of the National Council Chamber, committees, structure, and operations of the National Council. You will thus learn more about the activities of the NC as the upper chamber of the Namibian Parliament.

The primary responsibility of the National Council is to consider bills passed and referred to it by the National Assembly. This is in addition to ensuring that issues of regional concerns are incorporated into legislation and policies. We consider the posting of the NC Website on the Internet a small but remarkable achievement because the NC is one of the few parliamentary chambers in Africa that is on the Internet. Members of the 4th National Council were sworn in on 09 December 2010 and their term of office will run until 2014. I specifically call upon members of the public in all our 13 regions and 107 constituencies country-wide to utilize the opportunity presented by the Website to acquaint themselves with the legislative duties of their representatives in Parliament. Such acquaintance will not only enable them to make informed and meaningful contribution, but will also enrich our legislative process as a whole. The information contained on the Website will regularly be updated according to new developments and the public demand.  It is my sincere hope that you will find information on this Website helpful. Once again, you are most welcome to the National Council Website. I wish you an informative and pleasant surfing on our net.
