A welcome message from the Speaker of the National Assembly
 
The Members of the 5th Parliament of the Republic of Namibia have taken oath on 19 March 2010, and as the Speaker of the National Assembly, I wish to extend a hearty and warm welcome to all esteemed visitors to the official website of the Parliament.
 
The Parliament website was developed in 2001 to give citizens an opportunity to have access to Members of Parliament without having to travel vast distances to the capital to meet their elected representatives. This, the second edition of the website, continues to facilitate access to Parliament information by citizens and visitors alike,  and unlocks the doors to the inner workings of the Namibian parliamentary system and procedures. This initiative seeks to stimulate and support national capacity-building efforts in strengthening good governance and democracy and to galvanize efforts in empowering our communities. With the help of you all, we would be able to further develop this site into a more comprehensive and efficient model.

So far more than 28 000 visitors have accessed the web page, which is an indication that this initiative by Parliament is indeed relevant.
