Table Office - What do we do?

1. The objective of this Directorate is to provide operational assistance and guidance to the   National Assembly. To attain this objective, the following functions need to be performed:

(a) The arrangement of all logistical and other matters pertaining to sittings. It is imperative that all functions and duties necessary to constitute sittings of the National Assembly for the exercise of its powers be performed.

(b) The rendering of assistance and advice concerning procedural and other matters.

The provision of procedural and administrative services to the Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Members of the National Assembly are of crucial importance.

(c) The attendance to the requirements of members.

Parliamentary staff must be at the service of all members, government and opposition alike.

(d) The rendering of sergeant-at-arms and orderly services.

Subdivision Serjeant-at-Arms

2. The objective of this Subdivision, namely to render serjeant-at-arms and orderly services, derives from the last function of the Directorate Table Office. The following functions are being performed:

(a) The management of security services.

(b) The rendering of ceremonial duties.

(c) The rendering of orderly services.

3. The main activities of the Directorate Table Office are as follows:

(a) Liaison with Ministers and Legal Drafters.

(b) Ensure the timely printing of Minutes, Order Papers, Questions and Amendments for daily sittings of the National Assembly.

(c) Communication and liaison with National Council regarding the conduct of Business between the two Houses e.g. referral of Bills passed by Assembly etc.

(d) Assistance in drafting of petitions, reports, motions and amendments for members when necessary.

(e) Preparation of Bills for Tabling in the Assembly.

(e) Processing legislation passed by Parliament to become law.

(g) Providing security, ceremonial and orderly services.
