Speaker - What I do

The Speaker of the National Assembly is elected to and removed from office in terms of Article 51 of the Constitution. In terms of this section the:
 
• House must elect the Speaker from among its members during the first sitting of the House by virtue of a proportional representation electoral system; candidate or candidates are nominated by political parties represented in the National Assembly.
 
• The House may remove the Speaker by resolution
 
• The House must fill the position when it becomes vacant during the term and
 
• Secretary must preside over the election of the Speaker
