National Council Holds Workshop to Deliberate on Poverty Alleviation, 18 June 2018

The National Council Standing Committees on Gender, Youth and ICT, together with Women Caucus are holding a week-long joint consultative workshop on Poverty Alleviation for Vulnerable Groups in Namibia with the assistance of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung. Various representatives from Government Ministries, civil society and stakeholders are gathered to deliberate on ways to combat poverty in Namibia. The Committees will use these gathering to gain insight and consult on a wide range of issues pertaining to poverty in the country. National Council Chairperson, Hon. Margaret Mensah-Williams, who is also the Chairperson of Women Caucus, says that everybody is an ally and a partner in the fight against poverty. At the end of this outreach exercise, two reports will be tabled in the National Council that will further assist other government OMAs in the fight against poverty. The Chairperson further pleaded that those present deliberate with hearts of flesh and not stone, and to utilize every opportunity to the benefit of the poor and downtrodden. Hon. Ambrosius Kandjii, Chairperson of the Gender, Youth and ICT Parliamentary Standing Committee stressed that there is a need for capacity building, and that it is the business of every one if a poverty free Namibia is to be realized. The workshop, which is taking place in Otjiwarongo, Otjozondjupa region will conclude on Friday after which the committees will proceed to Kavango East, Kunene, Oshikoto and Oshana regions.
