ALAN RAISES AWARENESS ABOUT ITS OPERATIONAL CHALLENGES TO THE SPEAKER, 5 MARCH 2017

 

 

ALAN Members lobbied the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Prof. Peter H. Katjavivi on Monday in an effort to raise awareness about its operational challenges that hampers the enhancement of the local government developmental agenda for effective and efficient service delivery. ALAN President, Hon. Katrina Shimbulu stressed the urgent need of policy reforms and interventions from all stakeholders in order to implement the development agenda.

The Association of Local Authorities Namibia is a body that represents all local authority members in Namibia. In addition, it provides a platform on which these local authorities can air their grievances and thereby provide better services for the community.

ALAN President, Hon. Shimbulu, was accompanied by Hon. Muesee Kazapua (EXCO Member), Ms. Maureen Kambala, the Chief Executive Officer and Ms. Valerie Niingungo, the Country Director of AMICAALL).

Inadequate financial resources, and capacity constraints are some of the challenges that both ALAN and the Alliance of Mayors' Initiative for Community Action on AIDS at the Local Level (AMICAALL) are faced with. Those challenges are among others, issues that are to be extensively discussed with the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Human Resources and Community Development in due course.

The Association Members remain committed towards attaining its aims to be a dynamic, self-sustaining organization that plays an advocacy role on behalf of local authorities, with a view to promoting and assisting its membership address socioe-conomic problems in a comprehensive and sustainable manner in order to stimulate growth and financial stability.
